I Love My Body – Esthetician

[Guest Post by Kayla Johnson] – I am an Esthetician–and let me tell you–celebrities are not perfect.

Here’s the truth: To look like a celebrity you have to have a stylist who can look at your body and will dress you in the right clothes to conceal your flaws and accentuate your strong points.

The book The Science Of Sexy shows you how to do this yourself, and is a great book!

You will then need a professional makeup artist and hair stylist and be willing to sit in a chair for sometimes two hours to make you perfect.

That’s right–two hours.

After that you will spend thousands of dollars on facials, injections, skincare products, laser treatments and a personal trainer to make you perfect.

Did you catch that? Thousands.

And after all of that–you will only be let down because only God will make you feel whole and worth something.

Worth more than Gold.

I have accepted that I am not perfect, and that’s okay.

From the beginning, staring at my reflection in the mirror as a young girl in dance class was never something I really enjoyed. I knew I was a good ballet dancer, but why didn’t I have just a little bit of a smaller waist, be a little more flexible, or have prima ballerina feet?

As I went through my teens I battled acne and again I would say,

“Why can’t I just have perfect skin like my best friend?”

I was obsessed with perfectionism.

Although I never beat myself up about it too much, or dared to tell someone about my obsession, it was always there.

Now almost 20, in July of 2011 I became a licensed Esthetician. As my career began, I loved it!

It was so much fun being able to help women relax, transform their skin, and make them feel good about themselves, inside and out.

For a while something was still missing; I didn’t feel good inside and out about myself.

Although now I knew all about the treatments tips and tricks, I would often still look at my blemished and scared skin, or cellulite on my stomach and say,

“Why can’t I get rid of this and be perfect?”

As I began my second job in the Esthetics world I moved to a larger city and became very busy.

I was constantly reading magazines, Esthetician blogs, beauty websites, taking classes and whatever else I could find to further my career, but at the same time I became even more engulfed in perfectionism.

I began working out 4-5 days a week, eating a strict diet–I knew these things were good.

But.

I wasn’t getting healthy for the right reasons.

After a little time God began to show me how to see things from a different light. One day I realized,

“I have never met one woman who looks like the magazines do.”

Out of the hundreds of women I’ve met there is not one who has perfect skin, hair, nails and has an hourglass shape with perfect proportions.

Each woman is unique and beautiful.

That’s when it finally clicked.

I may not have a perfectly thin waist with zero body fat or cellulite, or be incredibly flexible, or have perfect skin.

What I do have is beautiful hazel eyes, super soft hair and long toned legs–which I LOVE! I also love the birthmark the goes up my arm which makes me unique!

I now look at my body daily with every bit of imperfection mixed with beauty, and smile.

My body is just how God made it to be!

He is the perfect Esthetician.

I have also realize that being imperfect in body here on earth only gives us another thing to look forward to in Heaven, because only then will our bodies be perfect!

“But in fact God has placed the parts of the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be” (1 Corinthians 12:18).
