The Day I Became a Christian -Gloriel’s Testimony

Easter 2021 was a day that forever changed my life; It was the day I became a Christian. I remember that day as if it were yesterday. My husband was outside with one of our nephews, and so I decided to go upstairs and find something to watch on YouTube. Since it was Easter, there were a bunch of videos about Jesus featured. I was not a Christian, so I was unmoved, until one video sparked my interest. Titled “Proof That Jesus is Real,” curiosity got the best of me. Though the video was less than 4 minutes long, it got me thinking. I am unsure why I did it, but I said aloud in the empty room, “Jesus, if you’re real, give me a sign, anything.”

I thought nothing of it and went back to browsing videos. Five minutes later, there was a knock on the front door. My husband and I were always working, so we really did not have much of a social life. No one ever knocked on our door unless one of us was planning to have someone over. Knowing that my husband had already had plans, I knew he was not expecting anyone, so I ignored it. About an hour later, I thought about the question I had asked. Could that have been my sign? Yet again, I said aloud, “Jesus, if you’re real, give me the same sign again.” Five minutes later, there was a knock on the door. I quickly got up and answered the door. It was one of my husband’s friends, who happened to be a carpenter. Deep down, I knew this was not a coincidence. I went back upstairs and said, “Okay.”

I began researching more videos about Jesus and listening to sermons. A little while later, something unexpected happened. This strange feeling came over me. I felt this warm and powerful energy deep inside me. As tears ran down my face, it was like this light switch had turned on. Everything I had thought and every belief that I had was replaced. At that moment, I knew that not only was Jesus real, but that He is Lord and that I had just encountered the Holy Spirit.

The next day, I began reading the Bible and learning about God. I decided that I wanted to get closer to God, so I researched and decided to fast. I had done many fasts before, but never a spiritual one. For 21 days, I prayed at least twice daily and gave up all media except that pertaining to God.

As I fasted and prayed, I learned more about God and myself. Closer to the end of my fast, my husband told me that he wished that we had a child. I had been told that I would not be able to have children since I was a teenager. My husband and I had been together since 2008 and we had never had children, which we were fine with. Loving my husband so, I prayed to Jesus, asking him for a child.

A few weeks later while my husband and I were watching tv, something told me to take a pregnancy test. I decided to listen to my intuition and take a test. I remember sitting there waiting for the results wondering why I was even bothering. The test I took said that it took 3 minutes for the results. In about a minute, I saw one line, which I was used to. Suddenly, another line appeared. As soon as I saw the results, tears of joy formed in my eyes. All I could do was say, “thank you Jesus.” I sat there for a while, letting it sink in that we were going to be parents.

Two years later, we have a beautiful baby girl and our faith in God is stronger. Today, I share my testimony everywhere to show not only that God is real but continues to work miracles for those who pray and believe. I am living proof that what Matthew 7:7 ESV says is true; “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
