The Powerful Control of Fear
[Editor’s Note: This is a guest post by Renee Beavers. Unfortunately in today’s world, fear is becoming an everyday battle for many of us. I love Renee’s post today that we must remind ourselves to not grow our fears! The control of fear is powerful, but God is even more powerful.]
It’s like darkness in a long cave with no end in sight.
It’s like an intense aroma in a small room with no windows. It’s like being surrounded by bullies with no one to help. Fear has a power that makes you feel helpless and defeated. It can make the simple, obvious answer, challenging and complicated. Fear stands at the door of opportunity and tells you that you are not invited. We are all aware of fear from birth. We all only have two fears from birth: the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. These are our first legitimate fears, and unfortunately, our fear grows as we do.
The battle with fear is a life long struggle, and it begins and ends in our minds. Parents learn early that our fears are not ours alone. Conscious and consequently fear is transferable.
What an awful use of our influence!
Our thoughts become words, which become habits, and our habits alter our character which forms our life and our lifestyles.
We do not have control over the thoughts that come to our minds. However, we are in control of how much and how long we entertain them. If you walk into a room in your home and you don’t like what is on the television you have three choices: watch it and increase your exposure, change the channel, or leave the room.
Fear is much like reality TV; it only receives renewals by massive amounts of viewers. No viewers, then your show is canceled and redirected from prime time to a less viewed channel. Fear only has as much power as we give it. Pull the plug of fear with hope and love they are much stronger and are a gift to our life and our children.
