I Do Have Faith?

Many times we hear the words “have faith” when it comes to many situations in our lives. We feel that if we have faith, we are doing the right thing. We think we have faith and we even believe we have it, but is just believing and thinking you have faith enough?

Faith is more than words

We can tell ourselves we have faith. We believe in God, we believe in His promises and we believe for good things to happen in our lives.  We honestly think that is enough, but then we hear that “faith without works is dead.”  What does this mean.  Do we work for our faith?

Do we have to work at certain things to prove we have faith?

Show your Faith

Honestly, it means we have to show we have faith.  We don’t do this just by praying and saying we do, but by showing it.  That is our works.  We have to not be scared to take that step we know we need to take; we cannot be scared to believe God for something without taking it into our own hands.  We can have faith all we want, but to not have the works behind it, pretty much wipes it out.

James 2:14-18 MSG states, “Dear friends, do you think you’ll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything?  Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really has it?  For instance, you come upon an old friend dressed in rags and half-starved and say, ‘Good morning, friend! Be clothed in Christ! Be filled with the Holy Spirit!’ and walk off without providing so much as a coat or a cup of soup – where does that get you?  Isn’t it obvious that God-talk with God-acts is outrageous nonsense?  I can already hear one of you agreeing by saying, ‘Sounds good.  You take care of the faith department; I’ll handle the works department.’

This is how most of us with faith in our own lives.  We like to talk about it, but the doing part is the problem.

Have I really had faith in my own life?

In my own life, I have struggled with this.  There are things I have been believing God for.  I have prayed about them like crazy, but have I had faith?  Not really.  You see I am a control freak and at one time or another I have tried to take matters into my own hands.  I have really tried to control situations to make them happen for me.  It has cost me peace and it has really caused the situation not to happen. As a matter of fact, it might have even delayed my blessing. Yes, delayed my blessing.

Show you have Faith!

There are times in our lives when we have to have faith, but we also need to show that we have that faith.  We need to not only state that we have faith and pray, but we need to put those words into action and really put them to work.  Since I have started doing this, I have noticed more peace in my life, even in that situation I have been worried about.

While I can say, it is good to have faith, I can also say that by putting it into action, I have felt more faith than I even thought imaginable.  And to be honest, I feel that I am even closer to getting my prayer answered than before.
